NBA futures – post allstar break

All-Star Break is all but finished, so we are now left with the last half of the season. Now is an optimal time to predict the winner of the NBA Championship.

Beginning with the Eastern Conference, the Toronto Raptors are the best team in the East. Last year the Raptors had a slightly similar win streak and ATS dominance, but it in no way holds a cup to this year’s Raptors. Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, and Jonas Valanciunas are all amazing players by themselves, but there is a large amount of depth support from Toronto’s bench and its true grit.

Grit as a measure of success is very helpful in making judgments about a certain person/stock/team etc… Toronto has demonstrated willpower and determination by way of its 4th quarter comeback ability. When teams are down and manage to erase a sizeable deficit in short, emergency time, it shows their true heart and character. Toronto has this element in DROVES. However, the NBA Playoffs are not just a test of grit, but it is a test of endurance. Toronto failed the marathon last year against Cleveland.

The Toronto Raptors stand as a +1470 underdog to win the NBA Futures: Quite amazing odds for a team that is currently the #1 Seed in its conference.

In my opinion, Toronto WILL NOT win the NBA Championship, let alone make it out of the Eastern Conference. If last year was any evidence at all, the Eastern Conference belongs to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Say what you will about Kyrie moving to Boston, but that leaves Boston and Cleveland as the ultimates in the East. The Raptors will have to get over the humps that are Detroit with Blake Griffin, the Washington Wizards, and the Milwaukee Bucks again if they are to even imagine challenging anyone from the West in a best of 7 series. Boston is another serious contender that only Cleveland will have to worry about. Cleveland smacked Toronto last year in the playoffs going a perfect 4-0 undefeated in their series. Toronto needs a fundamental overhaul of its mentality as a team if it is to make a dent in the NBA Playoffs this decade.

Recommendation: Do Not Select the Toronto Raptors To Win the NBA Champs

Also for February 23rd, I am picking the Golden State Warriors and the Charlotte Hornets to win their games.

Golden State Warriors host the Los Angeles Clippers:

Golden State will have a nice nationally televised bout with the Clippers. Lou Williams is a danger factor for the Clippers while the Warriors will have Steph, Klay, DGreen, and KD.

An interesting note is that the Clippers went into Golden State and won by blowout fashion, but one must understand that this was without Stephen Curry or Klay Thompson playing.

Golden State will be roughly -500 on the moneyline, so one should bet the moneyline live and the 3rd quarter spread, as the third quarter is one of Golden State’s fortissimos.

I choose the Golden State Warriors on the Moneyline

Charlotte Hornets host the Brooklyn Nets

Charlotte needs wins, or may decide to tank full out.

Brooklyn is a terrible away side, but has a demonstrable amount of grit as shown in its relatively good double digit point-spread covers.

This is a stay away game for me, but I’ll still bet the Hornets on the moneyline… What’s the worst that can happen? 😉
