UFC Fight Night Singapore – Holm vs Correia

The UFC is coming to Singapore and this card is stacked for being a fight night. Holy Holm will try to stop her two-fight winning streak when she faces Betha Correia. Rafael Dos Anjos makes his debt at 170 pounds against Safadine and Lucie Pudilova will try to avenge what was one of the worst judges decisions this year against Lisa Linsberg when she faces unbeaten Ji Yeon Kim who is making her UFC debut.

Holm vs. Correia

Holm has had a real hard time after the highlight reel finish of Ronda Rousey. Her loss to Misha Tate in the last round and then a close decision loss to Marion Renau. Both fights were close and although Holm fought smart she lacks some aggression and is happy staying on the outside and playing it safe, which is understandable. If we take a look at her fight against Tate, she had to watch out for the takedown. She was doing everything really well and winning on the cards up to when that got her back and submitted her. Instead of trying to win that last round or get a finished she coasted and Tate caught her off guard. Although the fight against Renau is controversial because of the late strikes by Germaine de Randamie. You can´t total blame Germaine for what was clearly the ref’s fault. In the fight itself Holm did well and kept things technical, you can’t really complain about Holmś performance, she could have been more aggressive but she did a lot of the right things.

Box the Brawler / Brawl the Boxer
Now Holm faces Correia and if Bethe “the pitbull” Correia is one thing, she is aggressive. How does Betha Correia win? Does she have a wrestling pedigree and will be able to take down Holm when she kicks, doubt it. Correia has not shown many single or double leg shots or level changes going for a takedown. Correia could knock her out, I also highly doubt this but this is the only way I think that Correia has a chance. This is a classic case of a highly skilled striker that has trained most of their life striking vs. Someone that came to martial arts later in life and gets by on power, heart and being aggressive at the right times. Box the brawler, Brawl the boxer and that is exactly what I think will happen which will likely look like Correia trying to run through a meat grinder and Holy will pick her apart little by little and we will see that signature head kick. I like the under 4.5 rounds because that will also include a freak win by Correia whether it is some kind of ko standing or ground and pound after hurting Holm. The odds on Holm even with a -5.5 handicap are just not worth it.

Pick: under 4.5 rounds 2.05 (+105)
